A Victory for Trade Advocacy, IEAGHANA Executive Secretary Appointed to National Export Development Committee

Importers And Exporters Association Of Ghana

A Milestone Moment for Ghana’s Trade Sector and Our Association

Accra, Ghana – June 2025

The Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana (IEAGHANA) is proud to announce a historic moment for the organization and the broader trade community — our Executive Secretary, Mr. Samson Asaki Awingobit, has officially joined the prestigious Accelerated Export Development Committee (AEDC), an initiative established by the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA) under the Ministry of Trade and Industry.

This appointment is more than just a personal achievement — it is a powerful national recognition of IEAGHANA’s leadership and credibility in shaping Ghana’s export agenda. It represents the collective voice of our members being brought to the very table where Ghana’s export future is being designed.

A Seat at the Table for the Trade Community

The AEDC was formed to guide the implementation of the National Export Development Strategy (NEDS), Ghana’s flagship roadmap for boosting non-traditional export earnings to $25 billion by 2029. With Mr. Awingobit now a sitting member of this committee, the practical concerns and perspectives of importers and exporters will now be directly heard and considered in shaping national export policy.

“This is a big win not just for me, but for the entire membership of IEAGHANA,” Mr. Awingobit remarked.
“For years, we have advocated for policy alignment, fair access, and smoother trade facilitation. Now, I am honored to represent those values and insights at the highest level of Ghana’s export strategy planning.”

Why This Appointment Matters

  • Representation of Our Members’ Interests: IEAGHANA has long been the voice of businesses at the port, in trade negotiations, and at the policy level. Mr. Awingobit’s seat on the AEDC ensures our members now have a direct channel into national decision-making on exports.
  • Trusted Expertise: Mr. Awingobit’s advocacy work, industry knowledge, and relentless push for fairer trade practices made him a standout candidate for this role. His inclusion speaks to the relevance and maturity of IEAGHANA’s contributions to Ghana’s economy.
  • Policy Impact: Through this role, IEAGHANA will play a hand in driving export diversification, investment promotion, and reforms to unlock the full potential of Ghanaian businesses.

A Shared Victory — One of Our Own

This appointment is a moment of pride for all IEAGHANA members. It proves that through unity, advocacy, and sustained effort, our collective influence can reshape national conversations around trade.

“He is not just a voice from the business community — he is OUR voice.”

Mr. Awingobit’s journey from trade advocate to national policy leader embodies the mission of IEAGHANA: to push for our rights, build platforms for growth, and ensure that importers and exporters in Ghana are not just players in the economy, but partners in policy.
